John C. Porter is a partner in the Lancaster office of Fowler, Hirtzel, McNulty & Spaulding with his practice concentrating on insurance defense and employment law matters. Mr. Porter has more than 15 years’ experience working at civil defense firms and in representing insurance companies, insureds, self- insureds and employers in civil litigation.   John’s experience includes defending trucking and motor vehicle claims, including UIM and UM claims, extra-contractual lawsuits, premises liability matters, construction accident litigation, and for a brief period, the railroads.

John brings to bear in this representation, a wealth of practical corporate and employment law experience. Before attending law school, John enjoyed a 14 year career at UPS, Inc., where, as a member of management he worked and led in Operations and Human Resources.  That experience engrained in John strategic awareness to problem solving and dispute resolution. Since graduating from the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University in 2002, John has applied that approach to his civil defense and employment law practice.  This has enabled John to identify and achieve efficiencies and outcomes which could not have been obtained in the absence of his considerable years of experience in human resources and operations at a Fortune 500 Company.

John is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has tried multiple cases to verdict in State and Federal Courts.  He has also counseled and represented employers, including insurers, in a variety of employment law and business related matters, including non-competes, discrimination and harassment claims, unemployment compensation, employee termination, and wage payment disputes. Mr. Porter also regularly reviews, analyzes and updates company safety policies, as well as other company policies, handbooks and procedures, including COVID policies.

In addition to civil litigation defense and employment law, Mr. Porter also concentrates on commercial litigation. Just like casualty litigation, business disputes can be costly to litigate, not only in terms of expenses and indemnity, but also in terms of the potentially irrevocable destruction of business relationships which may occur. Mr. Porter recognizes the added value to all of his clients by immediate consideration of early opportunities for practical and inexpensive resolutions of disputes, and employs this discipline in the representation of all his clients.
