John Sparks is the Chief Client Officer for Fowler Hirtzel McNulty & Spaulding. He manages the firm’s quality improvement and data programs. He assists in training firm associates and in coordinating the firm’s business development efforts.

As a high school English teacher, John learned the value of clear communication, empathy, engaged listening and the need for plan flexibility. These tools have proved invaluable in his career as a trial lawyer, law firm leader, mentor and business disruptor.

John was also a high school basketball coach. His coaching record told him he should go to law school.

FHMS strives to meet its Better-Faster goal on every action in every case. John manages the firm’s quality programs and works with all firm lawyers to understand and commit to thoughtful, resolution-focused client service.

FHMS develops initial resolution strategies for all cases. We talk to our clients to keep a strong focus on the plan. We do what’s necessary to answer the questions that are stalling case progress. We don’t do the other stuff.

We evaluate our lawyers based on client service. We ask our clients what we can do better. We look at what went right and what went wrong on each case. We celebrate cases that we close quickly…and inexpensively.

FHMS is a data driven firm. We measure Key Performance Indicators such as Total Case Cost. We parse the data to give us a clear picture of case performance by case type, severity and resolution. We review the data to see how we can deliver better service. We share the information with our clients.

The litigation support world constantly offers technological improvements. We embrace the evolution of artificial intelligence and examine the products that allow us to employ more efficient case performance.

All of John’s services are provided to our clients free of charge.

Management of these tasks is complicated. John is a trial lawyer who has taken over 70 cases to verdict. He’s managed offices and firms. He’s handled and reviewed thousands of cases. He’s written and/or spoken for the alphabet organizations, DRI, CLM, ABA and NAMIC as well as The Gavel’s National Conference.

John is a thought leader in case management. He’s been part of a think tank with progressive clients and lawyers and won client service awards. He’s AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

In real life, John spends as much time as possible with his family in Cape May, New Jersey. He’s a proud winner of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Short Story Fiction Writing Contest. He is a certifiably lunatic follower of Villanova basketball.
